Investigate inventory drift and vendor exposure

Turn changes in identifiers, ownership, lifespan, categories, and providers into a focused review queue.

Last reviewed September 12, 2026

Inventory drift signals that the website, a campaign, or a third-party provider introduced or changed browser activity. Narrow the change by time, provider, category, ownership, and lifespan; trace it to source resources and sessions; then correct its classification and repeat the relevant consent tests.

Investigate a change

  1. 1.

    Confirm the time window

Check whether the change aligns with a site release, campaign, tag-manager publication, or vendor update.

  2. 2.

    Identify the new record

Filter the Privacy Inventory by provider and category, then inspect source resources and recent sessions.

  3. 3.

    Confirm ownership and lifespan

Determine whether the item is first- or third-party and whether it persists beyond the session.

  4. 4.

    Review its category and disclosure

Update any incorrect provider, category, or visitor-facing purpose description.

  5. 5.

    Retest consent states

Validate pre-consent, acceptance, rejection, customization, withdrawal, and GPC where relevant.
