Classify and describe identifiers
Confirm consent categories and maintain clear provider and purpose descriptions before publishing them to visitors.

Classify each observed identifier by its actual purpose on your website, then record a clear provider and visitor-facing description. Manual decisions override discovered suggestions. Accurate mappings matter because CookieWall uses them both to explain activity and to apply category choices at runtime.
Review an identifier

Open the identifier
Review its observed frequency, first- or third-party ownership, provider information, source scripts, and recent session evidence.

Confirm its purpose
Compare the technical evidence with the website feature, vendor documentation, contracts, and your organization’s data-use record.

Choose a category
Use Strictly Necessary only when the site cannot work securely or reliably without the identifier. Use Functional for requested features, Analytics for measurement, and Marketing for advertising, retargeting, attribution, or audience building.

Write for visitors
Set a recognizable provider and a plain-language description that explains the identifier’s purpose rather than its implementation.

Save and publish
Save the mapping, then confirm the updated category and description reach the published banner configuration.
